Just about everyone these days is carrying around a device more powerful than a desktop they had even a few years ago. Mobile devices, especially phones, have come a long way since the original iPhone was released back in 2007. In less than 5 short years these devices have revolutionised the world of technology and put us closer to the dreams of science fiction writers all over the world.
We all know that these devices are great for killing time checking Facebook or playing Angry Birds but what about a real business application? With that in mind, here’s a selection of some the best apps for your device when it comes to doing business.
Cardmunch – allows you to quickly take a picture of a business card, upload it to LinkedIn and have all the contact details automatically added. You’ll need a LinkedIn account to get the most from this app, but who doesn’t have one of those these days?
Tripit – if you travel for business then this is way to organize everything in one location. Simply email your confirmation details to Tripit and your itinerary will automatically be created. You can connect with other business travellers and special deals as well, all for free (although there is also a premium version available).
Kindle – if you are an Amazon customer then chances are you have a Kindle reader. Using this app you can read all your books on your mobile.
Audible – If you are too busy to read then consider Audible (also owned by Amazon) as a way to get your dose of information. You can access your library, pause, play and rewind quickly and easily. If you want to stay a step ahead then using audiobooks gives you an advantage.
OneNote – yes, this is the same product as you get with Microsoft Office on your desktop but it is now available for free across just about every device. You can save your notebooks either in Office 365 or SkyDrive Live (which is free) and access them from everywhere. Nothing beats OneNote for capturing and cataloguing ad hoc information. Now you can do that where ever you are.
These are only a few of the fabulous apps that are available for your device. Importantly more and more apps are now specifically being designed for business. What are your favourite apps? Let us know, we’d love to add them to our collection.
